The citizens of Solana Beach are exceptionally well educated, civic-minded and politically active. Formerly part of San Diego, Solana Beach incorporated in 1986 to become its “own” city — the second smallest city in San Diego County.
Solana Beach operates under a council / city manager form of government, with the mayor’s position rotating among five council members. The city falls within the 74th State Assembly District, the 38th State Senate District, and the 50th U.S. Congressional District.
